I haven't been happy with the monitor in my Defender cabinet. I've determined its a WG K4600. First I wanted to fix convergence because I could see red misaligned with blue. I found this video I'll link below and thought that looks easy I can do that. So I ordered the Craftymech Test Pattern Generator. Well of course it does not provide a nice test pattern like seen in that video. So I got the bright idea hey I can use the black/white checkerboard pattern and then use the green cutoff and then only have red and blue to do the alignment. Well I guess I don't understand how this stuff works cause if you shutoff the green or any of the colors it seems to paint that color solid on the entire screen. Shutting off all 3 colors gives me a grey/white screen. And it's really hard to tell what colors are active when my green looks more like yellow. For the pattern that has cross-hatch lines I have some bad bending going on in the upper left area. I also notice there is quite a bit of burn in on the monitor whenever you display a solid color. Its not noticeable when I play the game luckily. I'm wondering do I need to pull a green wire to shutoff the green and would that react differently than the dip switch cutoff on the TPG? Also I can tell the convergence doesn't appear uniform across the screen. The manual and other sites talk about tilting the yoke. I've been comfortable moving convergence rings but I'm not confident enough to tilt the yoke till I know more about that. Most sites give instructions and say something like we assume you know how to work in these high voltage areas. Still looking for the site that says just in case you don't know here's the precautions to take. My fear has always been dying with the headline....EE electrocutes himself...lol. I know how to discharge a CRT but not sure what areas to avoid when you are making adjustments while it's powered up so I'm just avoiding all metal/glass. I did order a cap kit and I'm fairly confident I can do that job. Just nervous about busting something when removing and reinstalling something so old.
