I like pulling their wings off.  >:D

Butterflies don't seem to like me for some reason.

There are always dragonflies.....

Only problem with them is you have to be willing to put up with their hatchlings eating up your garden if you want them to become butterflies !

Grandma spends tons on flowers and stuff, and I always set her up a flower garden in front of the porch just for the butterflies and hummingbirds.  Hours of enjoyment for her... not so much for me, but I still like watching them and if it makes her happy it makes me happy.  The season is about over around here though.

We used to catch them as a kid, hold them by the wings and let them go.  Nobody bothered to tell us that handling the wings knocks the scales off, they can't fly right and then they die.  So that garden is kind of my penance for inadvertent buttercide in my youth.

Zeppelin, the Doors, the Animals, the Beatles, Black Sabbath, Dio, the Kinks... just about everyone from that era except Iron Butterfly.

How many people can rattle off five Iron Butterfly songs off the top of their head?

Brother Cory, there should never be any strife when butterflies are involved. I would be loathe to have the civility of this site put in question when we should be talking about the beauty of the majestic butterfly.

It was said about this place that -

"Those folks get bent out of shape quick over there. I can post a thread about butterflies and before it's over two members are going at it about Some conspiracy theory butterflies are working for the Russians with opposing viewpoints and literally threatening each other. Seems to be a trend."

I'm just proving that this isn't true. Pax, brothers, and Happy Birthday, America.

There's a nice butterfly garden in St. Louis.  Houston and Galveston both have them.  I am friends with a student getting her PhD on butterfly mating behavior.  (It's literally a hot coed chasing butterflies)  Apparently you can store them in a refrigerator and it doesn't traumatize or injure them.  One time, the Monarchs migrated through San Antonio and you felt like a murderer driving down the highway.  The doves ate so many of them they were crash landing and gasping for breath everywhere.

Thus ends my thoughts on butterflies.

I have no understanding of this thread, but if you're into butterflies there is a deal on IMAX:Flight of the Butterflies 4K UHD + 3D Bluray + regular Bluray
https://slickdeals.net/f/10321544-imax-flight-of-the-butterflies-4k-uhd-3d-blu-ray-blu-ray-12-75-free-store-pickup?src=pdw
Butterflies cost $12 bucks and .75.

I watched that on Netflix 4K.  Very good demonstration of a 4K TV for all those blind "it doesn't look any better to me" people.

Any more butterfly stories?  It would truly be sad to see such a glorious thread die off. It would make me quite unhappy.

I was playing badminton a while ago and a child picked up a racket and tried to "catch them in the net." RIP butterflies.

Here is a butterfly attached to my wife.  It took us to The Butterfly House on Mackinaw Island, Michigan.  Good spot to go if you enjoy butterflies as much as Yots.

Butterflies are wayward, they come and go, and grace you when it's convenient, and usually pleasant. No mess if they get on you. No breath if they fly in your face. No furniture dirtied. And so on......

Fun fact:  Many adult butterflies never excrete waste – they use up all they eat for energy.

Ahh, a source of genetic content to include in one's makeup.
